U.S. ITC Reschedules Key Hearing

The U.S. International Trade Commission has rescheduled key hearing dates for its five-year sunset reviews of antidumping duties on, "Certain Bearings from China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Singapore and the United Kingdom." This is the second full five-year sunset review for antidumping duty orders under investigations listed; the first reviews were in 1999-2000: 731-TA-344, 391A, 392A, 392C, 393A, 394A, 396, and 399A. Although the orders were wider scope when initially instituted, the current round of reviews involves six antidumping duty orders on ball bearings, four on tapered roller bearings, and one on spherical plain bearings. On October 12, the Commission extended the review period by 90 days and set its schedule for the final phase of five-year review (70 FR 60556). The purpose of the five-year review, required by the Tariff Act of 1930, is to, "determine whether revocation of the antidumping duty orders on certain bearings from China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Singapore, and the United Kingdom would be likely to lead to continuation or recurrence of material injury within a reasonably foreseeable time." Persons, including industrial users of the subject merchandise and, if the merchandise is sold at the retail level, representative consumer organizations, wishing to participate in these reviews as parties have the opportunity to file an entry of appearance with the Secretary to the Commission, as provided in section 201.11 of the Commission¡¯s rules. After the schedule was set on October 12, the Commission received and granted a request from one of the affected bearing manufacturers to change the date of the public hearing.
