Polymer compound covers extreme bearing needs
Iglidur Z510 is a new 'extreme' polymer compound developed by Igus to combine those applications demanding permanently high operating temperatures of 260C with those requiring high pressure resistance and dimensional stability. Thanks to its high pressure resistance and elasticity, Iglidur Z510 can handle particularly heavy loads, even while pivoting and with additional edge loads. Engineers carry out more than 5000 tests annually in the Igus laboratories and test more than 100 new materials. During one of these tests, the new material really showed what it could do. In rotational tests, Iglidur Z510 stood up to permanent loads much higher than the 100MPa Igus felt it could cope with in continuous motion. The display finally showed 300MPa, which makes applications for high-performance, maintenance-free bearings possible on truck tail lifts for the very first time, according to engineers in this sector. The new bearing material is also extremely resistant to chemicals and is characterised by low water absorption.
