Morgan to Re-install and Upgrade UK Mill
Morgan Construction Company has received a contract from Thamesteel Ltd., for a coil handling and compacting system. The equipment will be for a rod outlet that is being installed to compliment the formerly announced project to re-instate the merchant bars facility at Sheerness, United Kingdom. Additionally, Morgan will assist Thamesteel in the relocation, upgrading and reconfiguration of the rod outlet that was previously located in South Korea. In making the announcement, Steve Lidgate, Managing Director of Morgan-Europe, the company¡¯s subsidiary in Sheffield, England, that received the contract, explained, ¡°The coil handling system features the overhead hook conveyor system, a coil manipulator station to assist in coil inspection/trimming, a coil weighing station, and an unloader station with capacity to hold 12 individual coils. It also features a Morgan horizontal coil compactor that is equipped with wire binding heads.¡± He continued, ¡°Also included in the project is a reconfiguration of the water cooling line of the rod outlet for production of High Yield Quenched and Self-Tempered (HYQST™) grades and supply of an intermediate pinch roll, as well as the Morgan Enhanced Temperature Control System (METCS). ¡°Thamesteel,¡± he added, ¡°will install the Ring Distributor to ensure a quality coil package and assured pay-off properties.¡± The single-strand rod outlet, when completed, will produce HYQST rebar and mesh qualities initially, with planned future development of higher quality grades at speeds of up to 100 meters per second.
