Plastic bearings have all applications covered
Igus UK reckons it can deliver a plastic bearing solution to suit any application. Igus keeps in stock an extensive line of more than 6000 bearing sizes, and so most purchases can be completed immediately with no lead time. If an application needs special attention, Igus will custom tool the right bearing to fit the application. Igus has developed more than 20 high-performance, engineered polymers with which it creates adaptable bearing solutions. Each material boasts its own unique properties, such as Iglidur Q for high loads, Iglidur H for wet environments and Iglidur W300 for extended service life. All Iglidur plastic bearings come in the traditional sleeve, flange and thrust washer design, but they can also be custom moulded to meet the parameters of an unconventional application. A bearing in any shape, such as a square, trapezoid or rectangle, can be moulded in almost any size. Historically, Igus has made a habit of listening to its customers. When the company was founded in the UK in 1991, just five materials were available. Most of its polymer materials have developed out of customer requests for special attributes. For example, Iglidur H was developed to meet the critical needs of low water absorption and high temperature resistance for customers in the automotive industry. 'Igus has maintained a close relationship with its customers since day one', said Dave Chapman, Managing Director of Igus. 'In fact, it was a suggestion from a customer that inspired our line of plastic cable carriers'. 'We listen to our customers and, if possible, try to anticipate their needs before they even voice them'. Iglidur polymer plain bearings are a convenient, cost-effective alternative to bronze, metal-backed and custom injection-moulded bearings. All Iglidur bearings are self-lubricating, maintenance-free, UV-resistant and corrosion-resistant. At startup, these high-performance bearings transfer material to the shaft and coat it with low-friction material. The bearing will then run for its predetermined life expectancy without any further intervention.
