SKF's Multilog condition monitoring unit (CMU)
SKF's Multilog condition monitoring unit (CMU) enables round-the-clock data acquisition from plant machinery in any industrial or process environment. It collects and evaluates vibration and process machinery data from permanently installed sensors, then automatically captures alarms as they occur. By recording data on a scheduled basis, it makes problem detection and analysis on key production or process assets timely, reliable and efficient. Specially designed to perform in harsh, remote, unsafe or difficult to reach locations, the CMU automatically records and processes machine data and alerts a user to incipient machine problems. Machine information is transmitted via an Ethernet or LAN Plus connection to a host computer running the SKF Machine Analyst for On-Line Systems software. Once installed, the system is configured via the software on any networked PC - even while the system is online. With the complete SKF On-Line system solution, users spend less time collecting data and more time on the analysis and diagnosis of machine problems. Primary features include: multiple-parameter monitoring, for identifying a range of machine problems; increased memory and dynamic measurement capabilities; distributed processing; Ethernet or SKF proprietary RS485 communications; modularity; ruggedised construction for optimum performance in the harshest environments; and an upgrade capability for the addition of future functionality. Each CMU collects and evaluates data internally and functions independently of other units - it does not rely on the host computer. This distributed processing and alarm evaluation helps to ensure system reliability and performance - even for the most extensive systems - and eliminates bottlenecks caused when data are processed at a single location, for example, only in the software.
