SKF actuators in the latest concept car from Volvo
SKF's actuators, including their electronic control boxes, were chosen for Volvo¡¯s ¡°Your Concept Car¡± (YCC) that was shown for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show in March. For the functionality of the most visionary part of the car, the ergonomic interior, six actuators, four for the seats and two for the steering function, were installed. They control the head rest position, the height of the safety belts, and in the front seat they lower the bolsters to facilitate getting in and out of the car and they also control the adjustment of the steering wheel¡¯s up-down and in-out positions. The modular design concept of the actuators makes it easy to interchange critical components to supply a custom-built actuator. This flexible feature became one of the reasons why SKF's actuators were chosen for the YCC. ¡°In addition, we wanted very silent actuators, and ones that don¡¯t take a lot of space because space was a problem¡±, says Shahriar Ravari, Consat Engineering, project manager for the electrical and telematical systems of this car. The YCC was developed by a female project team at Volvo Car Corporation in Goteborg, as women form an increasingly important customer group.
