SKF supplies bearing units for rotary printing machines for ¡°Kansas City Star¡± newspaper£¨pic£©
KBA Commancer / SKF PCU SKF Printing Cylinder Units (PCU) have been installed throughout two new press lines that will print the USA newspaper "Kansas City Times". The press lines will be provided by the German printing machine manufacturer Koenig & Bauer AG (KBA) from W¨¹rzburg. The installation of the two parallel KBA Commander press lines; high-performance rotary presses with a total of 216 printing couples, will take place during the beginning of 2004. This is the largest order for up-to-date newspaper machinery ever gained by KBA from a US company. Thanks to the SKF bearing units the KBA rotary presses can be operated at an increased machine speed, with the printing quality remaining unchanged. On start-up and shut-down of the printing process, the PCUs ensure smooth and safe swivelling of the blanket cylinder relative to the plate cylinders, using an eccentric device. They enable very precise guidance of the printing cylinders as well as easy mounting. Furthermore the bearing units are interchangeable. In addition to the clear advantages of this SKF solution, it was the comprehensive engineering knowledge of SKF - from consulting to development, design and condition monitoring, ending with logistics - that won this contract.
