Timken¡¯s Chennai Unit By Year-end Timken Company, a major manufacturer of bearings, plans to start operations at its new facility coming up near Chennai by the end of this fiscal. David White, Director-Sales and Marketing of Timken India, told presspersons here on Friday that in the first phase an investment of $27 million was going into the project, which was coming up at Mahindra World City. It planned to invest further for the next phase. It would manufacture bearings for multiple sectors and these would be for export and also the domestic market. The U.S. headquartered company started its India operations in 1989. It had a plant in Jamshedpur that manufactured bearings for automotive, industrial and rail applications and catered to global supply. The Timken technology centre, located in Bangalore, provided customers access to the company¡¯s pool of engineering resources and technological advancements, he said. Timken had six manufacturing plants in China and also its Asia-Pacific headquarters. The company launched an expanded range of products and its new distribution office for Coimbatore on Friday.
