Taiwan Bearing Exports Jump 24% in January The Taiwan Association of Machinery Industry reported January 2007 statistics covering imports and exports of machinery, tooling, components and other manufacturing-related parts and equipment.Overall, exports in the category grew 17% year-on-year. But in the bearings, gears and ball screws classification, exports were up 24% from January 2006, hitting USD $50 million. China and Hong Kong were the primary export markets, followed by the United States, Japan, Thailand and Vietnam. On the import side, Taiwan brought in 18% more machinery and equipment in January than a year earlier, for a total of $1.4 billion. In that category, machine tool imports nearly doubled. Japan and the United States are Taiwan's primary sources for industrial machinery and equipment, leaning heavily toward advanced machining equipment used in optoelectronics, communications information technology, and semiconductor manufacturing equipment.
