While Heim ball bearings are unground, their burnished races provide far smoother operation than other unground bearings. This often allows a Heim design to be used in place of precision ground bearings in many applications. The Heim unground ball bearings are also manufactured to accommodate for housing variations and eliminates the need for precision housing fit ups which are required for precision ground ball bearings.
