Morgan Gets Repeat Order for Indian Bar and Rod Mills

Morgan Construction Company has been awarded a contract to build two mills for Jindal Steel and Power, Ltd. (JSPL), headquartered in Delhi, India. The new mills will be located in Orissa, India. The contract is a repeat order for the Jindal Group, as Morgan earlier received a contract for two identical mills for JSW. In addition to mechanical and auxiliary equipment, Morgan will be responsible for the complete automation for both mills. The rod mill will be one of the region¡¯s largest capacity single-strand rod mills upon completion. It will produce 5.2 mm to 22 mm wire rods with a capacity of 600,000 tons. The mill will be designed for a maximum operating speed of 120 meters per second, with a guaranteed speed of 110 meters per second. The new mill¡¯s RSM technology will add to the region¡¯s growing levels of quality production, noted S. Mark Shore, Vice President, Rolling Mill Sales & Proposals. The rod mill¡¯s start up date is expected to be December 2008. The bar mill, projected to be commissioned in March 2009, will produce plain bars, rebars, round corner squares (RCS) and angles, with a one million ton capacity. It will be a complete high-speed rebar mill with slitting technology. ¡°This rebar mill¡¯s speed will give JSPL a significant competitive edge in today¡¯s market,¡± said Ashok Jain, Vice President, Morgan India, which is based in Mumbai. The two mills will be built on a greenfield site in Angul in India¡¯s Orissa state. ¡°With this new order, Jindal Group will effectively cover the complete Indian long products market, from north to south, with unmatched productivity and quality.
