Timken Begin Filling Fafnir(R) Housed Units With Its Own Grease
The Timken Company (NYSE: TKR) today announced that it will begin filling Timken(R) Fafnir(R) ball bearing housed units with its own brand of pillow block grease. This enhancement, which is expected to go into production this month, will provide ball bearing housed-unit users with improved performance characteristics over the previously used grease. Timken chose to convert from a commercial brand to its own pillow block grease after thoroughly testing and comparing both formulas in its laboratory for tribology, the study of lubrication as it relates to motion. "Although both greases are of high quality, I was pleased to see a couple of areas in our analysis where Timken's pillow block grease outperformed the commercial brand," said Craig R. Etheridge, product manager - housed units. "Leveraging our knowledge of tribology, anti-friction bearings and how these two elements affect overall system performance, we are proud to offer our customers an enhancement to our line of quality Fafnir housed units." Offering long-life with moderately high-temperature characteristics, Timken pillow block grease is specifically formulated to maintain shear stability while resisting corrosion - even in the presence of salt water. It also helps remove particles that can potentially cause noise within the housed unit, especially in textile and conveyor machinery, printing and packaging machinery, food-handling machinery and harvesting equipment. Timken pillow block grease can also be purchased separately, along with seven other application-specific formulas, through Timken's network of authorized industrial distributors.
